INSTRUCTIONS
StitchingNOTE: For the glasses case stitch the whole chart. Measure to find center of canvas. Following arrows, draw intersecting lines across chart to locate center. Work design according to chart, referring to key for symbol, color and type of thread.
a. Stitch entire design in needlepoint using 4 plies of Waterlilies, one strand of Impressions.
b. Stitch background in needlepoint with one strand of Natural Impressions.
c. Border may be stitched in needlepoint or decorative stitches (see special stitch diagrams below).
Finishing
1. Press completed design face down on well-padded surface. Trim fabric to within 1/2" of stitching; cut lining using trimmed fabric as a guide. Fold design in half with right sides facing each other, pin and sew sides; trim seams to 1/4". Turn design right side out and press. Repeat process for lining. Insert lining into case, fold top edge under, pin, and whipstitch top edges together.
2. To make cording, measure around sides and bottom edge and add 6". Using this measurement to make a cardboard template, wrap teal Impressions around cardboard. When satisfactory thickness is reached, remove from template, and tie one end of threads to cup hook inserted in chuck of variable-speed drill, and slide weight (such as a set of keys) to middle of length. Attach opposite end to a stationary object (shelf, doorknob, chair back, etc.). Pull fiber taut and twist fiber using drill until it twists back on itself if slightly released. Untie end from drill; fold in half, bringing end being held to end attached to stationary object. Allow cord to twist around itself, with keys weighing down folded end. When cord stops twisting, remove keys and tie off ends. Stitch cording around sewn sides and bottom edge.
