With the canvas mounted on mini stretcher bars, stitch the outlined areas as indicated with 6 ply white floss. Lay the stitches with a laying tool.

Now, lay the stitched canvas over paper towels, and thoroughly wet the threads with water and a cosmetic sponge. Mix some textile medium into the colors you have chosen, and apply watered down paint with a brush onto the wet threads. The colors should run and blend into the threads and onto the canvas background. After you are satisfied with the painting, dry the canvas either in the sun or with a hair dryer.

Finish the stitching by filling in the background with 1 ply Watercolors, and the Darning Wave Stitch. (Favorite Stitches II, by Brenda Hart, p. 46)

Fill in the veins on the wings with Kreinik metallic. Fill in the gaps on the body with accenting 1 ply accenting color Watercolours.

Backstitch with metallic all around the wings. Apply one long stitch along left side of each body segment with 1 ply accenting Watercolours.

Couch antennae with metallic.

Sew on beads for eyes.

Note: Barbara decided to incorporate her Dragonfly Design into a pillow, resulting in a stunning home accessory.
